Thismotorcycle was purchased new from Fordyce Harley Davidson in Riverside, California in 1959. I purchased the motorcycle from the original owner in 1980(see the picture of the letter from the original owner with a little history ofthe bike and the picture he included). The bike had about 85, 000 miles when Ipurchased it and I have only added about 6, 000 miles since then. I had thespeedometer rebuilt shorty after purchasing the bike and it was reset back tozero miles at that time

1959 Ariel square four. One of the last ones ever made. One owner since 1971. 4800 original miles. When i bought this bike the big pieces were loosely put together and the rest was in cardboard boxes.
I built it up and replaced or repaired parts as necessary. It took a few kicks to start it but it runs and rides. I've only taken it round the block to check that it runs through the gears. I'm in my seventies and I find it a bit much to handle now! I'm more of a tinkerer than a rider these days. It will no doubt need more fettling after a proper ride.
